How It Works

What you need to know about taking our Test

It’s great that you care about your brain health, and want to take our test. Our test is easy to do, and it’s not an IQ test. Here’s some information about what to expect.

Our Test should take about 15 minutes to do. For best results, complete our test in one go and answer the questions to the best of your ability. Once you submit your answer, it cannot be changed so think carefully before moving on.

Our test covers various topics from basic background information (age, education, etc.) to your cognitive, physical, and living health. All our questions are based on the Health and Retirement Study (HRS) from the University of Michigan. Please visit The Science/The Data for more information.

Practice Questions

The questions in our test are mostly multiple choice, but some also involve your input. Here are some examples:

Multiple Choice Questions

These questions require you to select the button of the most appropriate answer. Once you make a selection, you can change it until you confirm your answer by clicking the Next button. Practice using your mouse to select an answer, and then change it for this example:

Paris is the capital city of which country?

Participant Input Questions

These questions require you to move the slider to the most appropriate answer. Practice using your mouse to move the slider to an answer for this example:

How many sides are there on an octagon?

Move the slider to the number of sides

Moving to the Next Question

Once you have selected the most correct answer you will then need to click the Next button to move to the next question. The Next button will look like this, you can click it, but it does nothing here.

Remember once you have clicked the Next button there is no going back, so choose your response carefully.

After completing our test, you will see a summary report of your brain health (visit The Science/Creating our Test for information about how this report is created). The report includes your estimated risk of dementia, and scores in various health domains compared to the population in your age group. Our results are best calibrated for people who are at least 50 years old, and should only be used for informational purposes. Our results are not medical diagnoses. If you are having concerns about your brain health, please consult your doctor.
